Research Focus

The NNTC is focused on facilitating translational research on the pathogenesis of HIV and HIV related disorders. In response to recent NIH initiatives, the Consortium is now gearing up to support research in the following key areas:

  • Eradication of HIV from persistent CNS reservoirs
  • Pathogenic mechanism of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) in the setting of long term HAART
  • HIV and aging

Recruitment efforts and protocol revisions are being implemented across sites to address each topic. Cohorts within the study population will be identified along with samples, clinical data, and research results that can be analyzed by researchers to address some of the important questions. Researchers are highly encouraged to use our query tool and other website resources to generate hypotheses and submit requests to the consortium for data access and shipment of specimens. All research results generated are expected to be provided back to the Consortium to further enrich the resource and support future research on NeuroAIDS.
