Abstract | The authors investigated the potential association of human primary CNS non-Hodgkin lymphoma (PCNSL) with polyomavirus in HIV-1 infected and uninfected individuals. Immunohistochemical analysis of CNS biopsies from 19 HIV-negative and 17 HIV-positive patients and PCR analysis of 12 HIV-negative and 14 HIV-positive patients revealed that the lymphomas were uniformly negative for polyomaviruses. The authors conclude that polyomaviruses are unlikely to be related to the pathogenesis of most PCNSL. |
